South Asian Women's Day and One Billion Rising Bangladesh 2026 Launch

One Billion Rising Bangladesh was launched on 30 November 2025 at Rabindra Shorobor, coinciding with South Asian Women’s Day—a day that holds deep significance for regional solidarity. This day is dedicated to honouring the struggles of South Asian women and celebrating a powerful sense of sisterhood, forming an important part of the 16-Days of Activism. Against this meaningful backdrop, OBR 2026 was inaugurated with renewed energy and aspiration.

This year’s theme, “Rise for Our Bodies, Our Earth, Our Future,” strongly resonated with the collective struggles and hopes of women across South Asia. The theme poem was translated into Bangla and formally launched as part of the program, reinforcing the connection between women’s rights, bodily autonomy, environmental justice, and the future of our communities. The open program featured a rich blend of dance, music, drama, and poetry, all reflecting the spirit of the 2026 theme. Performers and participants expressed their commitment to protecting people and the planet, weaving together messages of resistance, care, and solidarity.

The event drew around one thousand people, who gathered to stand united for a future free from violence, exploitation, and environmental destruction. Many NGO’s and members of some like minded organizations also joined the program. Through collective voice and artistic expression, the launch reaffirmed the shared resolve to rise—for ourselves, for the earth, and for the generations to come.
